Overview - There was a time when Israeli music spoke of the dream and the hope of the utopian Israel. There were sounds of longing, struggle, victory and joy. As this utopian world moved further away into the future and Israel was plagued by its persistent lack of peace, many Israelis dreamed to be like all the other nations of the world. Many turned their eyes and ears towards the west in search of a new dream. This was reflected in Israel's adoption of western media, cultural styles and icons. Israel's music scene was simultaneously transformed, expressing this inner cultural shift. A new generation of Israeli musicians was raised on the Western music that flooded the Israeli airwaves. They consumed these foreign sounds digested and assimilating them and produced American sounding Pop/Rock with Hebrew words.
